Xpeng, Xiaomi Lead In-Car AI Push at Beijing Auto Show

Gate News message, April 24 — Chinese automakers showcased advanced in-car AI systems at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24, as the country accelerates its AI Plus strategy and seeks greater independence from foreign semiconductors. Xiaomi upgraded its car operating system with AI capabilities for tasks including reservations and note-taking. Huawei announced plans to invest more than $10 billion in smart driving technology, while Horizon Robotics unveiled a processor combining cockpit and autonomous driving functions. Xpeng's in-house Turing chip reportedly delivers three times the processing power of Nvidia's Orin processors currently deployed in its vehicles. The push reflects intensifying U.S. export controls on advanced AI chips and China's efforts to develop domestic semiconductor alternatives, driving efficiency gains across the industry.

Xiaomi Reveals MiMo-V2-Pro Training Details: 1T Model Parameters, Thousands of GPUs Deployed

Gate News message, April 24 — Xiaomi's large language model team lead Luo Fuli disclosed in an in-depth interview that the MiMo-V2-Pro model has 1 trillion parameters in total and required thousands of GPUs for training. She noted that the 1T scale represents the minimum threshold to achieve performance approaching Claude Opus 4.6 level and secure a competitive entry ticket for the next phase of AI agents. Technically, the Pro version employs an extreme sparse attention mechanism with a 7:1 ratio between global attention and sliding window attention, controlling inference costs for long-context processing. The model also retains the MTP (Multi-Token Prediction) architecture to leverage surplus compute power for faster inference. On the management side, the 100-person MiMo team has only 30-40 people directly engaged in core iterations. The team operates without formal hierarchies or explicit sub-group divisions and delivery deadlines. When encountering unstable numerical issues such as training loss spikes, the team prioritizes halting training for investigation, even if it means stopping operations for one or two weeks and incurring millions of dollars in compute costs.

DeepSeek cut prices for two consecutive days. Based on their original compute scale, they definitely can’t support such a large user base, so it’s highly likely they’ve already raised funding and obtained compute support. There were earlier reports that they received money from Alibaba and Tencent, at a valuation of 200 billion USD. If DeepSeek doesn’t raise more funding to secure compute support at this stage, they may really end up falling behind—and people will leave. Without compute, you can’t train top-tier models; with top-tier models, if you don’t have cards, you can’t do inference. Employee equity options only have value when the company has assets. After Luo Fuli left DeepSeek and went to Xiaomi, he was also able to push models to the front ranks, exceeding ByteDance and Tencent’s models—so the strength is terrifying. Alibaba has chips ( Pingtouge ) and cloud infrastructure (Alibaba Cloud). In China, chip shipments rank second ( market share of 16% ); first is Huawei ( market share of 20% ). With the ability to connect domestically made chips for inference, Pingtouge can ensure DeepSeek’s future compute security. Tencent’s AI products only had a chance to establish themselves to begin with by relying on a full integration with DeepSeek, and it also made open-source contributions for DeepSeek. Tencent’s own AI products aren’t very strong either—my guess is their compute hasn’t even been fully utilized. ByteDance doesn’t invest in any external AI model teams; they build everything themselves. Although Huawei’s AI chips are ahead, the probability of investment is low. The biggest possibility is that DeepSeek has taken investments from both Tencent and Alibaba: one ensures what they can do now, and the other ensures what they can do in the future. Originally, the domestic large models Kimi, Minimax, and Zhipu were already invested in by Tencent and Alibaba; and now, with DeepSeek’s full family package, everything is complete.
