Nancy Guthrie, 84 years old, the mother of journalist Savannah Guthrie (NBC Today), mysteriously disappeared from her private residence in Catalina Foothills, near Tucson, Arizona, prompting authorities to launch a large-scale criminal investigation involving the FBI. Initially treated as a missing persons case, the incident was turned into a kidnapping investigation after police found bloodstains at the doorway and confirmed they belonged to Ms. Guthrie. Her phone, wallet, car, and medication remain inside the house; the doorbell camera has been disabled, raising suspicions of a deliberate break-in.

During the investigation, reports emerged of a ransom demand in Bitcoin, but authorities have not verified its legitimacy nor found evidence that the kidnapper has contacted the family directly. Police also detained a man in California for sending fake extortion messages related to Bitcoin, but confirmed he is not connected to the case.

The current focus remains on locating Nancy Guthrie and identifying the perpetrator, motive, and method of the crime.
