Many people think of generative AI as a tool that lets them ask questions and generate content in their own words, and it does both very well.

At the same time, it also helps us access and take advantage of the underdeveloped information that floods our inboxes, much of which we forget.

Adobe recently conducted research on digital workers’ perceptions of AI technologies and their value in the workplace. They surveyed 6,049 digital workers from five countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, India and Japan, including rank-and-file employees and senior leaders who use digital technologies, including digital documents, in the workplace.

The survey results shed light on their perceptions and desires for how AI can change the way humans work. Here are three key insights from the study:

AI is empowering the digital workforce

For companies adopting AI technology, employees see AI as a constructive force. The vast majority of respondents (92%) said AI had had a positive impact on their jobs, with more than a quarter (26%) calling AI a miracle.

Two-thirds say AI saves them time, and 61% say AI helps them work faster.

Nearly half (45%) of the employee group surveyed said that AI has reduced or eliminated boring or tedious tasks, while 41% said that AI has changed the way they work.

More than a third (36%) of respondents who use AI at work say the technology enables them to do things they were unable to do in the past.

Generative AI seen as a productivity multiplier

Generative AI has exceptional potential to be a productivity multiplier by empowering employees to access the power of AI.

90% of employees believe that generative AI will help them work faster; integrate information from different sources in less time; and spend less time on difficult, boring or tedious tasks.

Almost as many say generative AI will help them do more work (89%) and create higher quality work (88%), with 9 out of 10 business leaders surveyed saying the same the opinion of.

Business leaders believe adoption and use of generative AI is inevitable

Nearly four in five (79%) business leaders expect their employees to regularly use generative AI at work, and 39% expect their employees to use generative AI on a daily basis.

A majority of global business leaders (76%) say their companies are ready to adopt generative AI in their workflows. About 25% of leaders say they are not ready to adopt new technologies, and more than a third (35%) say they either don’t have the right security, privacy and trust guardrails in place or don’t know how to use or deploy them effectively The technology (34%).

While the transition from analog to digital has made information more accessible than ever, it has also brought with it an enormous amount of information, too much for most of us to absorb, and more Needless to say use it. For companies, the challenges are multiplied because of the vast amount of archived documents that are of little value.

At a pharmaceutical company that stores thousands of PDF files containing key studies and other information, a leader at the company commented: It is possible that the cure for cancer is in these data, but we don’t have an effective way to find it.

And generative AI will eventually enable every employee, and every company, to apply knowledge that may be hidden in files to their work. Therefore, you might as well start today and try to make it truly your work assistant.
