International Energy Agency Director: Prepared to Release More Oil Reserves, Still Has 80% Inventory

Gate News Report, March 25 — International Energy Agency (IEA) Director Fatih Birol stated in Tokyo that he is prepared to further release oil reserves as global energy prices soar. Previously, Japan’s Prime Minister asked the IEA to prepare for a second emergency release of reserves.

Earlier this month, the IEA announced it would release 400 million barrels of oil, the largest release in the organization’s history. Birol said, “We still have 80% of our stocks. If necessary, we are ready to proceed.” However, he also warned, “The world is facing serious energy security threats.”
