According to Wu, Lefteris Karapetsas, the founder of rotki, reported that the well-known blockchain explorer Etherscan has completely removed free API access to Base, Optimism, and BNB Chain during the recent Devconnect ARG. Etherscan stated that the free API service is still operational, with a chain ID coverage rate of 90%, and the majority of foundation operations still supported; the decision to drop the chain coverage rate by 10% was due to the inability to secure sufficient funding within those ecosystems. Lefteris Karapetsas mentioned that the removed chains Base, Optimism, and BNB Chain are fully capable of covering the costs of providing such necessary services and called for cooperation instead of leaving the expenses solely to Etherscan.
