On June 5, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Ali Ali Khamenei said that the main purpose of the United States asking Iran to completely abandon uranium enrichment is to hinder Iran’s development and force Iran to rely on foreign forces. Khamenei said at an event in the capital Tehran that the United States’ remarks and demands on the nuclear issue are in essence to deprive Iran of its right to participate in the industry and the various benefits it brings to the people, and in essence to oppose Iran’s progress and development. He said Iran’s choice was in its own hands and that the United States had no legal basis to interfere with whether Iran was enriching uranium.
