According to Jinse Finance, on March 27, Trump made his strongest defense yet regarding the Justice Department’s criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Powell, stating that the officials who initiated the investigation showed “courage.”
Trump praised Attorney General Pam Bondi and D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro for launching an investigation into Powell’s handling of a $2.5 billion renovation project at the Federal Reserve headquarters this year.
He stated during a cabinet meeting on Thursday, “I want to thank Jeanine Pirro, and Pam and her team, for having the courage to bring this lawsuit.”
Before Trump’s remarks, a federal judge halted the subpoena issued by Pirro’s office. The judge wrote in an opinion earlier this month that prosecutors were using the investigation to force Powell to “yield” to the pressure from the president’s repeated calls to lower borrowing costs.
On Thursday, Trump labeled Powell as an “idiot,” criticizing him for not cutting interest rates despite concerns that the Iran war would trigger a new wave of inflation.
