Hong Kong regulators launch GenA.I. Sandbox++ to promote artificial intelligence innovation in the financial services sector

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), the Insurance Authority (IA), and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 5) jointly announced the launch of the Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenA.I.) Sandbox++ with Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport). Building on the successful experience of the GenA.I. Sandbox launched in 2024, the regulators are expanding the GenA.I. Sandbox++ to cover multiple financial sectors, including banking, securities and capital markets, asset and wealth management, insurance, Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF), and stored value payment tools. The initiative continues to focus on three key areas—risk management, anti-fraud, and customer experience—and will persist in promoting the “A.I. against A.I.” strategy, using A.I. to manage the risks brought by A.I. applications.
