Sagrada Familia is preparing for opening: Jesus Tower completed at 172.5 meters
The miracle of Barcelona’s architecture, Sagrada Família, has achieved another grand milestone. The external structure of the iconic Tower of Jesus Christ has been officially completed, bringing us closer to the planned opening on June 10. This moment marks the culmination of over a century of work and ushers the legendary temple into a new era.
Unavoidable Goal: The World’s Highest Sanctuary
The tower, rising to a height of 172.5 meters, affirms Sagrada Família’s status as the tallest church on the planet. The installation of the final key element—the three-dimensional cross—last Friday signaled the completion of years of construction and engineering. Architect Antoni Gaudí envisioned such grandeur when he conceived this architectural symphony at the beginning of the 20th century.
Gaudí’s Legacy: Two Centuries of Transformation
By the time of Antoni Gaudí’s death in 1926, only one of the planned 18 towers had been completed. The Tower of Jesus Christ became the fourteenth structure realized in this monumental project. Years of construction have been imbued not only with architectural genius but also with symbolic significance—marking and completing the founder’s dreams that transcended his own life. This year’s opening celebration on June 10 will coincide with the centenary of Gaudí’s death.
Nearing the Finish Line: Interior Work and Expectations
While the façade and main external structures have been completed, interior work within the temple is actively ongoing. Specialists and builders are preparing the space for the official opening on June 10, when the world will see this architectural sanctuary in its full glory for the first time. Every detail, from interior decoration to functional systems, is being meticulously prepared for this historic day.
