Meta $META has signed an agreement to purchase up to 1 gigawatt of (space-based solar energy) from the emerging Overview Energy company, to power AI data centers.
In short, the project involves solar panels in space collecting solar energy and transmitting it to Earth.
Commercial delivery is expected in 2030, with the first orbital pilot implementation scheduled for 2028.
The project requires launching the panels into orbit, which could open new contracts for launch companies like $RKLB Astra or @SpaceX$META .
