Spring equinox has just passed (March 20 at 10:46 AM Eastern Time), so technically we are already in the full spring season. It lasts about three months, roughly 92 days and a bit, until the summer solstice on June 20. The interesting part is that right now, the days and nights are almost the same length, but from now on, the days will keep getting longer. Temperatures rise, everything begins to bloom, animals become active again... it's as if nature suddenly wakes up.
What I didn't know is that spring doesn't have a fixed date each year because the Gregorian calendar and the astronomical year don't match exactly. That's why it can start on March 19, 20, or 21 depending on the year. Once spring ends in June, summer begins and lasts until September 22, so if someone asks how long summer lasts, now you know it's almost three months too. These seasonal changes are not random; they regulate everything: the climate, agriculture, when animals migrate, everything. Quite fascinating when I think about it.
