I noticed an interesting trend at the beginning of this year. The picture of global wealth in January 2026 has changed dramatically — technological entrepreneurs have almost taken over the top of the rankings. It’s not just about the increase in wealth, but a qualitative leap. The fortunes of the world’s richest people have grown by hundreds of billions simultaneously. This is no coincidence.
Elon Musk still holds the top spot, but now with a margin that previously seemed impossible. $726 billion is no longer just a number; it’s a symbol. No one in modern history has had such personal wealth. SpaceX is regarded as a space power, Starlink is capturing satellite internet, Tesla remains the flagship, and neurotechnology through Neuralink adds a new dimension. This isn’t just wealth — it’s influence over the future.
But Musk isn’t alone at the top. Larry Page, co-founder of Google, with $270 billion, ranks second, fueled by Alphabet’s dominance in AI. Jeff Bezos is third with $255 billion — AWS continues to print money, logistics are expanding. Sergey Brin, Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg — all are in the $200+ billion range. These are no longer just wealthy individuals; they are architects of the technological order.
What’s behind this boom? Three things. First — artificial intelligence and cloud computing are growing exponentially, and those who control this infrastructure are earning disproportionate profits. Second — space and semiconductors. SpaceX, NVIDIA, all are overvalued by the market, but overvalued in the right direction. Third — American tech companies simply dominate, and this dominance translates into personal fortunes for the founders who haven’t sold their shares.
Looking at this list, it becomes clear — the world’s richest person is no longer just a financier or an old-school industrialist. They are an engineer, a dreamer, someone betting on the future and winning. And it seems this trend is only gaining momentum. It’s worth paying closer attention to what’s happening in the tech sector and the crypto ecosystem — a new order of wealth is being born here.
