I think there are many people struggling to choose the right powder foundation. Especially for skin with noticeable acne scars, it's hard to know which one to pick. Recently, I’ve tried various products, so I want to share my actual experience using them.
The best one personally was Kose’s Synchro Fit Pact EX. Even after 8 hours in the morning, it didn’t dry out or become greasy, and it reasonably covered acne scars. The fact that it doesn’t look powdery is really great. It makes the skin look moist, so I recommend it for those aiming for a porcelain skin look. However, its coverage for dark spots is somewhat limited, so using a primer to cover those is essential.
The runner-up is Shiseido’s Taint Powder Eclat. It gives a semi-glossy finish and doesn’t feel heavy. If you have dry skin and are concerned about a powdery appearance, this is worth trying. Its pore coverage is decent, and the application feels very comfortable.
Make Up For Ever’s HD Skin Matte Velvet Compact is also worth trying; it completely controls T-zone oiliness. The particles are fine, and it covers imperfections like acne scars quite well. It’s good for oily skin and those worried about shine.
Another surprisingly good one was Chifure’s UV Powder Foundation. Despite being inexpensive, it doesn’t look powdery, and it applies lightly, leaving a natural skin feel. Even with acne scars, it gives a natural finish, making it perfect for daily use. Its coverage is modest, but it feels gentle on the skin.
Etvos’s Matte Smooth Mineral Foundation is a loose type, applied with a brush, resulting in a soft finish. It’s as light as face powder, and there’s no heavy foundation feeling, which I like. When concerned about acne scars, it’s good to pre-cover with a primer.
Kose’s Hitonuricaba Durability Foundation costs about 1500 yen, offering excellent cost performance. It blends well without caking and adheres to the skin. Its pore coverage is moderate, but because it doesn’t look powdery, it’s easy to use.
Honestly, when choosing a foundation for skin with prominent acne scars, it’s not just about coverage but also about whether it looks powdery and blends well with your skin. Powdery finishes can make scars stand out more. The key is to match the foundation to your skin type—moisturizing for dry skin, matte for oily skin.
