Day 18 · Confronting "FOMO Anxiety": You Don't Need to Catch Every Opportunity

😰 There is a pain that is more subtle and more common than losses:
FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
When you hold onto assets you rationally chose, watching others celebrate on tracks you don’t understand. Those skyrocketing candlesticks slap you in the face, making you doubt your entire investment system.
So you ask yourself: Am I too conservative? Did I miss something? Do I not deserve to be in this market at all?
Stop.
💎 The fact you must recognize today:
FOMO is not your failure, but a punitive emotion from the market for “staying rational.”
But remember — the market never lacks opportunities; what’s lacking is that when opportunities come, you’re still at the table with enough ammunition.
✨ Three remedies for FOMO anxiety:
1. Distinguish between “FOMO within your ability circle” and “missed opportunities outside your ability circle”
▫️ Not buying that hundredfold coin you don’t understand, haven’t researched, and can’t comprehend — that’s not FOMO, that’s “avoiding pitfalls.”
▫️ True FOMO is when you’ve done in-depth research, fully recognize the asset, plan to buy, but miss the chance due to hesitation, fear, or discipline deviations.
▫️ The former requires no reflection; the latter deserves a review.
2. Accept that “opportunity cost” is the default setting of investing
▫️ Even top investors miss 99% of opportunities.
▫️ Every position you choose means giving up countless other possibilities. This is not a flaw; it’s the inevitable cost of focus.
▫️ Trying to seize all opportunities often results in: catching all retracements.
3. Establish an “FOMO emergency protocol”
▫️ Write in advance: If an asset I’ve researched but not bought increases by more than X%, what is my response process?
▫️ Reject FOMO chasing: The success rate of chasing highs drops significantly the moment you experience FOMO.
▫️ Allow yourself to “wait for another cycle”: Truly high-quality projects won’t only rise for a month. If you believe in their long-term value, it’s better to get in a year late than to stand at the top.
✨ Higher-level cognition:
The pain caused by FOMO is essentially a variant of “jealousy” in the investment world.
It doesn’t stem from losing something, but from others having something.
The cure isn’t “Next time I will also seize,” but to ask yourself again:
Is my investment goal to beat the market or to beat my neighbors?
