【Block Rhythm】 Prediction market platform Kalshi faces legal difficulties in the United States. On January 21, Massachusetts Judge Christopher Barry-Smith announced an initial injunction requiring Kalshi to immediately cease offering sports-related prediction contracts to residents of the state without obtaining the necessary licenses.

The lawsuit was filed by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell in September of last year. The Attorney General’s office accused Kalshi of conducting “illegal and unsafe sports prediction” activities within the state, involving regulatory compliance issues. This court decision means that Kalshi needs to re-obtain operational licenses in Massachusetts or adjust its business scope in order to continue serving local users. It also reflects the increasingly strict scrutiny of prediction market platforms by global regulators.

I should have known earlier, this is how US regulation works—use first, regulate later.

ngl this is just the beginning... statistically speaking, every prediction market that tried to operate without proper licensing ended up in regulatory hell. reminds me of UST in May, different sector same energy - nobody wants to play by the rules until the hammer drops. massachusetts is basically the canary in the coal mine here.
