Crypto investor loses $282 million in Bitcoin and Litecoin after being deceived with fake monetary rewards.

Investor #كريبتو lost over $282 million in #Bitcoin and #اللايتكوين currencies in one of the largest social engineering attacks recorded in the crypto sector, after being tricked into believing he would receive substantial financial rewards.

Social engineering attacks are among the most dangerous cyberattack methods, as they do not target technical systems directly but focus on exploiting the human element through deception and psychological manipulation.

Attackers in this type of attack rely on building trust, inciting fear, or creating a sense of urgency to compel victims to reveal sensitive information such as passwords or financial data, ultimately enabling them to seize cryptocurrency wallets.

According to Coin.. telegr.. aph, the theft occurred on January 10, 2026, after the victim was tricked into revealing the recovery phrase for his (Wallet), as confirmed by blockchain investigator Zach.. XBT. Once the attacker obtained this phrase, he gained full control of the wallet and quickly transferred the funds across multiple networks to hide their source.

Following the attack, the attacker immediately began converting the stolen assets into Monero (#XMR ) through several instant exchange services, which caused a sharp increase in Monero’s price in a short period.

Simultaneously, large portions of Bitcoin were linked across the Ethereum network, in addition to converting Litecoin using the THORChain protocol, a mechanism that allowed the attacker to transfer value between different blockchains without the need for centralized exchanges.

This massive operation reignited the debate over the risks associated with decentralized, multi-chain infrastructure, and how it can be exploited for large-scale thefts, highlighting once again the importance of security awareness and protecting digital wallet keys, even in the most advanced technical environments.
