The development of the binding between public chains and storage protocols is often a double-edged sword. As a decentralized storage solution within the Sui ecosystem, Walrus relies on Sui's technology and resources to grow rapidly, but it is also constrained by the risk of "single ecosystem dependence." How to leverage Sui's strong momentum while escaping ecosystem constraints has become a key issue for Walrus to go further.

The symbiotic advantages of Walrus and Sui are indeed obvious. Technologically speaking, Sui's combination of high TPS and Move contracts provides a solid foundation for Walrus. The direct result is that developers can perform real-time programming interactions on stored data through smart contracts. This capability has spawned many new applications, such as decentralized front-end hosting (Walrus Sites) and AI training data storage. Many less performant public chains simply can't handle these features.

Looking at ecosystem-driven growth, in the first quarter of 2025, active users in the Sui ecosystem surged by 200%, and stablecoin supply increased by 75%. This indicates that on-chain data volume is skyrocketing—the expansion of Blob data directly translates into demand for WAL tokens. In a short period, Walrus has secured a key position within the Sui ecosystem.

The question is, how long can this high level of dependence last? Once Sui's ecosystem growth slows down or alternative storage solutions emerge, Walrus's situation could reverse. Breaking free from single dependency, expanding cross-chain applications, and establishing an independent value support system are urgent tasks for Walrus.

To be honest, Walrus is now just a "vampire"... relying on Sui to survive

Binding to a public chain is a trap; it seems like making quick money but actually digging your own grave.

It's the same story of "leveraging for takeoff, then restraining with the other hand" again, and Walrus is indeed a bit awkward.

When Sui rises, Walrus follows the hype; when Sui crashes, Walrus is doomed. This is the current situation.

It sounds like Walrus is now betting on Sui's prospects—it's a shared fate of glory and loss.

Basically, Walrus is now just a vassal of Sui, making quick money and risking a crash even faster.

It's the same binding dilemma again. Sui became popular, and storage followed suit. What if Sui cools down?
