UK Regulatory Watchdog Escalates Crackdown on X Over AI-Generated Deepfakes

Ofcom has initiated a formal investigation into X concerning the proliferation of deepfakes created via its Grok AI feature. British authorities are reportedly considering sweeping enforcement measures—fines reaching 10% of global revenue or an outright platform ban within UK jurisdiction are both on the table.

Elon Musk has fired back, framing the regulatory push as censorship. The clash highlights mounting tensions between tech platforms and government bodies over AI content moderation, synthetic media risks, and how democracies should police digital platforms operating on their soil.

Here we go again, regulatory authorities are about to take another cut. 10% of global revenue or outright bans—this routine has been played to the limit. Elon claims he's tough on censorship, but everyone knows that deepfakes are indeed a ticking time bomb; no one wants to be the first to get hit.

lol ofcom threatening 10% revenue fines while musk plays the censorship card... technically speaking, neither side's actually addressing the core issue here. deepfakes are a symptom, not the disease.

Haha, here we go again, this time it's the British. Ofcom is clashing with X, and the deepfake stuff is basically just an excuse for regulation.

Deepfake stuff... To be honest, regulators should step in, but banning the entire platform? That logic is a bit absurd.

Here we go again, always the same excuse of deepfake. Why not regulate the garbage images and texts generated by AI?

Deepfake technology definitely needs regulation, but silencing completely is going too far.
