AI wave accelerates! How to make money with Taiwan stock ETFs? Memory chip sector leads the rally, with 00947's March increase surpassing 20%

The Semiconductor Uptrend Fully Launches, Memory Trading Volume Hits New High

The recent focus of the Taiwan stock market is on the memory and IC design sectors. Driven by the simultaneous increased capital investments from global cloud service giants (Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta), the Taiwanese semiconductor supply chain is experiencing a collective rally.

Today, the Taiwan stock market rose, with memory concept stocks performing especially well. Among them, Nanya Technology (2408) became the hottest trading stock in the market, with a trading volume of 151,000 shares and a transaction amount reaching NT$25.539 billion, topping the Taiwan stock trading rankings. The stock price surged over 5% intraday, breaking the NT$167 mark, with a clear influx of capital.

Nanya’s parent company, Nanya (1303), also rose along with the trend, supported by rising memory demand and a surge in high-end material orders from Japan. The stock has been rising for eight consecutive trading days, with a total increase of over 41%.

How to Make Money from ETFs? Focusing on Memory and IC Design Sectors Is Key

Among index funds, the Taishin Taiwan IC Design Momentum ETF (00947) has gained as much as 21% over the past three months, maintaining the top performance among similar Taiwan stock funds, and is the only related product with a return exceeding 20%, standing out with its performance. Following closely is Fubon Technology (0052), which increased by 19.2% during the same period.

The reason 00947 can lead the rally is due to its precise stock holdings focused on current industry hotspots. Its top five constituents include memory-related companies such as Phison (8299), Nanya Technology (2408), and Winbond Electronics (2344), as well as the largest holding, Delta Electronics (2308). Although these companies operate in different business areas, their core products all rely on advanced chips and are deeply integrated into the IC design ecosystem, enabling full participation in this round of semiconductor growth.

The logic behind how ETFs make money is: by tracking industry cycles, aggregating stocks of related companies, and achieving diversification and industry synergy returns. When the overall sector improves, the stock portfolio can benefit simultaneously.

Industry Fundamentals Improve, Memory Enters a New Upward Cycle

This rally is not without signs; the industry fundamentals have shown clear signs of improvement. Taishin Investment Trust research pointed out that in early November 2025, the spot price of DDR5 increased by about 30% in a single week. It is expected that the contract prices for standard DRAM in Q4 will increase by 18%–23% quarter-over-quarter, with high-end products already rising nearly 70% since September, indicating a rapid upward trend.

Data from research firm TechInsights shows that the sustained demand for AI servers is driving high-speed growth in HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) shipments, with an annual growth rate expected to exceed 70%. Taiwan’s memory module and chip packaging/testing industries are operating at full capacity, expanding profit margins.

All these signs clearly indicate that the memory industry has officially emerged from inventory correction shadows and entered a new cycle of “price and volume growth.”

Investment Strategies to Participate in Industry Growth

The demand for AI computing, data centers, and high-performance servers continues to rise, making the memory industry and IC design innovation important growth engines for Taiwan stocks.

For investors wanting to participate in this wave of technological dividends, two strategies can be employed: one is to choose ETFs that track related sectors to achieve industry linkage and risk diversification; the other is to select leading stocks in the industry to directly participate in corporate growth benefits. Both approaches can effectively ride this rare industry cycle upward trend.
