In the history of P2P file sharing, BitTorrent is definitely a significant milestone. Supported by the world's largest decentralized P2P network, it has completely changed the way people download content—faster and more efficient. The data speaks for itself: over 100 million active users, more than 1 billion devices with BitTorrent or µTorrent installed, which is enough to demonstrate how deeply ingrained it is.
The turning point came in July 2018, when a mainstream public chain project successfully acquired BitTorrent and its entire product line. Since then, this classic file sharing tool has begun to evolve towards blockchain. Now, with the infusion of blockchain technology, BitTorrent has a new mission—to become the infrastructure for Web3 decentralized content distribution. The boundaries of the traditional internet are being broken down, and the power of decentralization is reshaping the future of the web.

BT really was wild back in the day. Now that it has been acquired by a public chain, I'm a bit hopeful... But speaking of which, after all these years of shouting the Web3 infrastructure slogan, how many actually have practical use?

When Bittorrent was acquired, I knew a change was coming, and sure enough, it's really moving towards Web3 now. That said, decentralized content distribution sounds good, but in practice, will it just end up a mess?

The father of BT was really a genius back then; one protocol changed the entire download ecosystem. However, since being acquired in 2018, there hasn't been much buzz in recent years.

After being acquired, Bittorrent lost its original flavor and feels like it has become a cash cow for the crypto world.
