Individual investors are making history:

In Q3 2025, retail investors accounted for about 20% of trading volume in the US stock market, the second-highest ever.

This is only below the peak during the meme stock frenzy in Q1 2021.

In comparison, before 2020, this ratio averaged about 15% over several years.

Retail investors' participation reached 20%, surpassing the nearly 15% of long-only mutual funds and traditional hedge funds in the previous quarter.

These funds are currently only half of the levels seen in 2015, marking one of the most significant changes in market structure in decades.

To give a more intuitive understanding of this situation, the combined percentage of all funds (including long-only funds, hedge funds, and quant funds) in Q3 is 31%.

Retail investors are rapidly taking over the market at an unprecedented pace.
