McDonald's UK embroiled in sexual harassment scandal, CEO forced to apologize
Alistair Macrow, the CEO of McDonald's UK, recently apologized for the allegations of sexual harassment, racial discrimination, and bullying that have emerged against the company.
A BBC investigation has found that over 100 current and former McDonald's employees have accused the company's management of harassment and violent behavior, with some complaints even being ignored by executives. Shockingly, 17-year-old employees at McDonald's in the UK have also reported routine incidents of molestation and harassment, reflecting the severity of the issue.
Key Data: About 75% of McDonald's employees in the UK are aged between 16 and 25, totaling 177,000 people, many of whom are inexperienced young individuals.
McDonald's is committed to establishing a safe and inclusive workplace and has stated that any violations of the code of conduct will face the most severe penalties, including dismissal. At the same time, McDonald's has signed a legally binding agreement with the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to work towards eliminating sexual harassment of employees.
This scandal reflects the systematic failure of large chain restaurant companies in employee protection—especially when most employees are inexperienced young people, the issue of corporate responsibility is particularly prominent.
