Gate News, March 28, Ripple and Stellar founder Jed McCaleb announced that he will invest $1 billion from his approximately $3.9 billion cryptocurrency fortune through his nonprofit organization, Astera Institute, to develop AGI systems based on principles of the human brain, and also committed to investing $600 million in the field of neuroscience. Astera Institute is located in Emeryville and currently plans to record the neural activity patterns of mice performing tasks through brain-machine interfaces, subsequently translating the research findings into new AI architectures, with future subjects to be expanded to monkeys and humans. McCaleb believes that current mainstream Transformer architectures lack key elements such as planning, decision-making, and motivation, and that new directions need to be explored, while AI based on human brain principles is more likely to be understood and controlled by humans.
