Do you know the story of Erik Finman? It’s one of those crypto tales that remind you that the biggest fortunes sometimes start with a simple decision at age 12.
Erik Finman received $1,000 from his grandmother in 2011 with a clear destination: college. But instead of letting that money sit idle, he did something few would dare to do. After seeing someone wear a Bitcoin T-shirt at a political rally, his curiosity was piqued. A few searches later, he understood the potential. He converted the $1,000 into Bitcoin at around $12 each. At that age, it was already a different perspective from others.
The years that followed proved that this kid truly believed in his decision. At 15, instead of just hodling, Erik Finman launched Botangle, an online education platform connecting students and tutors via video conferencing. He saw the flaws in the traditional education system and wanted to offer an alternative. When an investor offered him the choice between $100,000 in cash or 300 Bitcoin, Erik Finman once again trusted crypto. It was a bet on his conviction.
But the truly defining moment was the bet he made with his parents: become a millionaire before 18 and not go to college. Spoiler alert: in 2017, when Bitcoin surpassed $2,700, his portfolio crossed the million-dollar mark. Erik Finman was not yet 18.
After reaching this early financial freedom, Erik Finman didn’t stop there. He participated in the Da Vinci Project, an initiative supported by NASA to send a satellite carrying music, messages, and crypto into space. That’s the kind of project you launch when you’ve already proven you can achieve the impossible.
What fascinates me about Erik Finman’s story is that it was never about luck. It was a combination of early conviction, calculated risk-taking, and a clear entrepreneurial vision. He started small, held firm through doubts, and knew how to recognize opportunities when they arose. From investing $1,000 at age 12 to becoming a millionaire before adulthood, through launching innovative startups, Erik Finman embodies what someone who thinks differently and acts accordingly can accomplish. His journey reminds us that in crypto, the most inspiring stories often come from those brave enough to bet on themselves when no one else would.
