Revolutionizing Mobility as a Service: Sony’s New Patent with IOTA Paves the Way for Distributed Ledger Communication Network Nodes

CryptoNewsFlash

Tech industry players across the world have been working on several mobility solutions. Japanese tech giant Sony has recently filed a new patent that talks about implementing distributed ledger technology (DLT) such as IOTA for building robust mobility solutions.

In the case of mobility as a service, the present disclosure consists of a communication network node, a communication network, a method, and a terminal device for providing a distributed ledger.

Usually, mobility as a service solution distributes a ledger over multiple nodes such as servers and electronic devices that record digital transactions. Several distributed ledgers could be based on blockchain technology. However, there are some distributed ledgers implemented on technologies other than blockchain, for e.g. IOTA.

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is a convenient service that allows people to plan, book, and pay for different types of transportation using a single digital platform. Instead of relying on personal vehicles, MaaS encourages the use of ious transportation options available to the public.

This is made possible by bringing together both public and private transportation providers in one place, where users can easily create and manage their trips. Payments can be made through a single account, either per trip or through a monthly fee for a specific distance. The main idea behind MaaS is to provide travelers with tailored mobility solutions that meet their specific travel requirements.

IOTA and Mobility Solutions

For a long, IOTA has been working on offering different mobility solutions. In the past, IOTA has worked with some of the top players in the automobile industry such as Audi and Jaguar Land Rover.

IOTA has developed car wallets that serve as technology solutions for enabling payment transactions in both digital and physical services. These wallets also facilitate communication between cars and third-party services like parking, tolls, and marketplaces.

By using the wallet, users can easily and securely perform small transactions in near real-time. These transactions leave a trail that can be audited and verified. The technology is versatile and can be applied to ious scenarios such as communicating with toll infrastructure, facilitating intelligent parking s, or supporting usage-based taxes.

Furthermore, the car wallet gathers data about the vehicle’s distance traveled and the roads taken, as well as information on toll infrastructure utilization.

IOTA utilizes a unique technology called a directed acyclic graph (DAG) instead of a traditional blockchain. This DAG architecture brings increased scalability and efficiency to the IOTA network. Unlike blockchain s, IOTA does not rely on blocks, miners, or transaction fees for its distributed ledger technology (DLT).
