Reuters Finance App — The conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, with tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel reaching new heights. Iran has explicitly rejected the temporary ceasefire proposal, insisting on a permanent end to the war, while U.S. President Trump issued a stern warning, threatening to deliver a devastating strike on Iran if it does not reach an agreement and open the critical Strait of Hormuz within the specified deadline.

This latest development not only intensifies regional military confrontation but also further stirs global energy markets and the international political landscape.

Iran Insists on Permanent Resolution, Presents Multiple Conditions

On Monday (April 6), Iran responded through Pakistan, a mediator, clearly rejecting the request for a temporary ceasefire.

Iran’s official news agency reported that Tehran hopes for a permanent end to the war with the U.S. and Israel, rather than accepting a short-term ceasefire arrangement. Iran’s response includes ten conditions, mainly involving ending all conflicts in the region, establishing a security transit agreement for the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions on Iran, and post-war reconstruction.

Iran emphasized that ensuring the safe navigation of the Strait of Hormuz and obtaining reliable guarantees against attacks are essential.

Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for Iran’s Supreme Joint Military Command, stated on national television that Trump’s warning is a sign of “mental disorder,” describing his words as rude, arrogant, and baseless.

Trump Takes a Hard Line, Threatens to Destroy Civilian Infrastructure

Trump rejected Iran’s response and maintained that the deadline remains unchanged. At a press conference, he said if Iran fails to reach an agreement and open the Strait of Hormuz—crucial for global energy supplies—by 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday (midnight GMT Wednesday), the U.S. will take extreme measures. He warned that Iran could be “eliminated overnight,” and that night could be Tuesday evening.

Trump further clarified that if no agreement is reached with Tehran, then by midnight Eastern Time on Wednesday (0400 GMT), “every bridge in Iran will be destroyed,” and “every power plant in Iran will cease operation, burn, explode, and never be usable again.” He also threatened to attack civilian infrastructure such as power plants and bridges, claiming the Iranian people “are willing to endure this pain for freedom.” Trump added that U.S. forces intercepted
