Water should be prepared in advance, 3 liters per person per day, and bathtubs should also be filled with water, at least enough to last two weeks. The first aid kit should not only contain band-aids; tourniquets, gauze, fever reducers, and medication for chronic illnesses should all be included.
Masks and goggles should be easily accessible. During power outages and internet disconnections, hard currency includes batteries, white liquor, and cigarettes. Tune the hand-crank radio to the emergency frequency, and keep three offline map backups.
Smart people have two plans: a small backpack that lasts one week, and household reserves that last two weeks, checked and updated every six months.
The key is to prioritize survival, stay calm, and prepare the most important items.
