U.S. President Trump criticizes NATO allies for lacking support for the U.S. and Israel in the Iran war, calling these long-term American allies “cowards.”

Trump wrote on social media, “Without the United States, NATO is just a paper tiger.” He stated that the military victory has already been achieved in this fight, posing almost no danger to them, yet they complain about being forced to pay high oil prices and refuse to help secure the Strait of Hormuz — which was a simple military operation and the only reason for high oil prices. It’s not difficult for them; the risk is very low.

Germany, the UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, and Canada committed on Thursday in a joint statement to participate in “appropriate actions to ensure the safe passage of the Strait of Hormuz.” However, German Chancellor Merz explicitly stated that participation in escort missions is contingent on the end of the war.
