Hongfu Garden Public Hearing | Government Respects Personal Privacy, Will Not Provide Information of Two Housing Authority Employees
Tai Po Hong Fu Court Fire Independent Committee held its first hearing yesterday, revealing several key factors that led to the tragedy. The committee also named the Housing Authority’s independent review team (ICU) and the building maintenance surveyors, Liu Jiamin and Gu Xiaoping. A review of the government directory shows that there is no information available on these two individuals.
The Government Information Service stated this evening that, out of respect for personal privacy, the government is unable to provide details of individual government employees.
The Government Information Service also noted that the relevant investigation procedures are ongoing. As the committee chair, Lu Qikang, stated at the start of this morning’s hearing, the committee’s legal representatives are only presenting the evidence currently available and have not reached any conclusions about the incident. Senior government lawyer Sun Duangan also pointed out that making judgments at such an early stage or assuming the committee has already formed any conclusions would be inappropriate.
The government will continue to fully cooperate with the independent committee’s work, and its legal representatives will present relevant evidence and statements on various matters during the upcoming hearings.
While the independent committee conducts its work, the government has launched a series of targeted improvement measures across different sectors to promote system reform and innovation. The government has also submitted information on these improvement measures to the independent committee to fully support its work and ensure efficient progress.
Relevant policy bureaus and departments will continue to cooperate fully with the independent committee. After the committee submits its final report, the government will further refine and optimize the system reforms based on its recommendations and take appropriate follow-up actions.
