Global Largest Single-Unit Coal-to-Ethylene Glycol Project Breaks Ground in Turpan

On March 20, in Turpan Economic Development Zone, Xinjiang, the Turpan City 2.4 million tons/year high-quality fiber-grade ethylene glycol project officially broke ground. This is currently the world’s largest single coal-to-ethylene glycol project.

The project has a total investment of 25.7 billion yuan. Once completed, it will primarily produce 2.4 million tons/year of high-quality polyester-grade ethylene glycol, with by-products including dimethyl carbonate, coal-based ethanol, and other high-value-added products. According to the project construction plan, the construction period is 30 months, and it is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2028.
