Caixin: The world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer, Qatar Energy, suffered significant losses in Iran’s retaliatory attack.

Qatar Energy Minister and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi revealed on March 19 that the Iranian missile attack reduced the company’s LNG export capacity by 17%, resulting in an annual revenue loss of approximately $20 billion. The construction of these facilities cost $26 billion.

“The damage to the LNG facilities will take 3 to 5 years to repair. Affected countries include China, South Korea, Italy, and Belgium. This also means we will have to declare some LNG long-term contracts suspended due to force majeure for up to five years,” Al-Kaabi said. Overall, Qatar Energy’s losses from this attack could exceed hundreds of billions of dollars.
