Tai Po Hong Fu Court Fire Independent Committee held its second hearing today. The committee’s representative, senior lawyer Du Gankun, stated that the independent committee will examine not only the fire’s progression, spread, and injuries but also another aspect. Using Hong Fu Court as an example of building maintenance, they will review relevant evidence, explore potential risks in the tendering process, corruption, and possible systemic issues, including related-party transactions, conflicts of interest, collusion, bid-rigging, or other improper conduct.

Du Gankun said that the committee has requested a large amount of information and revealed that two directors of the main contractor, Hong Ye, Hou Huajian and He Jianye, have submitted witness statements to the committee. However, both refused to appear in court to give oral testimony on the relevant matters. He also disclosed that the committee has also sought testimony from Tai Po District Councilor and former Hong Fu Court legal entity advisor, Wong Bijiiao.
