Cuba experiences a nationwide blackout again
Cuba experiences nationwide blackout again, leaving about 10 million people without power.
The Cuban Electric Union posted on social media that the national power system experienced a complete outage on Monday. An investigation into the cause is underway, and power restoration procedures have been initiated.
Since Venezuelan President Maduro was forcibly controlled by the United States in January, Washington has increased pressure on Cuba. U.S. President Trump cut off Venezuela’s oil supply to Cuba and threatened to impose tariffs on all countries selling oil to Cuba, worsening Cuba’s already aging power grid.
Last week, the Cuban government stated that it has begun negotiations with the United States in hopes of easing the crisis.
Since October 2024, Cuba has experienced multiple nationwide blackouts due to power facility failures, hurricanes, and other reasons.
