【Global Finance】Brazil's February Agricultural Exports Hit Record High for the Period
Source: Xinhua Finance
Xinhua Finance São Paulo, March 15 — (Reporter Yang Jiahe) Recent data released by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture shows that Brazil’s agricultural product exports reached $12.05 billion in February 2026, setting a record for that month.
The data indicates that agricultural exports accounted for 45.8% of Brazil’s total exports in February. Export volume increased by 9% year-on-year, driving export value up by 7.4%. The Brazilian government stated that this growth is mainly due to expanded export supply and Brazil’s continuous efforts to open new markets internationally.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s agricultural imports totaled $1.5 billion, down 9.1% year-on-year. Against this backdrop, Brazil’s agricultural trade surplus reached $10.5 billion, a 10.3% increase year-on-year.
In terms of export destinations, China remains Brazil’s largest buyer of agricultural products, with imports worth $3.6 billion in February, accounting for 30.5% of Brazil’s total agricultural exports. The European Union ranked second with $1.8 billion, representing 15.2%, and the United States was third with $802.9 million, about 7%.
Looking at product structure, soybeans remain the core of Brazil’s agricultural exports. In February, exports of soybean-related products reached $3.78 billion, accounting for 31.4% of total agricultural exports, a 16.4% increase year-on-year. Animal protein products exported amounted to $2.7 billion, representing 22.5%, with a 22.5% growth. Additionally, wood products exports reached $1.27 billion, accounting for 10.5%; coffee exports were $1.12 billion, or 9.3%; and sugar and ethanol exports totaled $860 million, or 7.1%.
Carlos Fava, Minister of Agriculture of Brazil, stated that the growth in agricultural exports reflects the continuous expansion of Brazil’s agricultural output and increasing international market demand. With crop yields expected to reach record levels and animal protein production increasing, Brazil’s export capacity will further improve.
Luis Rua, Secretary of Trade and International Relations at the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, said that the export performance is also related to the government’s ongoing efforts to open markets. In February alone, Brazil added nine new agricultural export markets, bringing the total number of new markets opened since 2023 to 544.
