Middle East Situation | Trump Discussing Opening the Strait of Hormuz with European Allies
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in an interview with Fox News that President Trump is in talks with European allies and many other countries about reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent earlier stated that the U.S. currently has no objections to some Iranian, Indian, and Chinese ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, and added that any measures aimed at easing inflation will depend on the duration of the Iran conflict.
Additionally, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the UK will not join the U.S. and Israel in a war against Iran but will cooperate with partner countries on plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
He said at a press conference at 10 Downing Street, “We will not be dragged into a larger-scale war. Ultimately, we must reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and this is not an easy task.”
However, Sunak warned that deploying naval forces is not easy and not straightforward, and any military actions to help protect the Strait of Hormuz will not be under NATO’s framework.
