People’s Financial News, March 16 — On March 15, 2026, Chinese Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs Zhai Jun met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Ghanem. Ghanem stated that Kuwait is not a party to the conflict and has always been committed to resolving disputes peacefully. Iran should immediately cease attacks on Kuwait and other Gulf neighboring countries, ensure the safety and smooth passage of international shipping lanes, and prevent further disruptions to global energy supplies. Kuwait highly appreciates China’s impartial stance and efforts to promote peace, welcomes Chinese envoy’s regional mediation, and hopes to strengthen communication and coordination with China to restore peace and stability in the region as soon as possible. Zhai Jun said that the ongoing turmoil in the region has severely affected Kuwait and other Gulf countries, which is something China does not want to see. The United States and Israel launching military strikes against Iran without UN Security Council authorization clearly violates international law. China firmly opposes this. At the same time, China condemns all indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets, believes that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf Cooperation Council countries should be fully respected, and that energy, economic, and other non-military targets should not be attacked. Shipping lane security should not be disturbed. Ceasing fire and ending the war is an urgent priority. The international community should urge the parties involved to stop immediately to prevent further escalation of tensions. China appreciates Kuwait’s restraint and calm response, and is willing to work with Kuwait to help de-escalate the situation and play a constructive role.
