Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs: Must promote seed industry revitalization initiative with greater strength, concentrate superior resources to accelerate cultivation of breakthrough varieties
People’s Financial News, March 13 — On March 13, Han Jun, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, presided over a meeting of the Party Leadership Group. The meeting emphasized the need to thoroughly implement the agricultural and rural work arrangements from the National Two Sessions, remain fully committed to grain production, stabilize grain sowing areas, and deepen efforts to increase yields of major grain and oil crops to ensure the annual grain output reaches approximately 1.4 trillion jin.
It also called for greater efforts to promote the revitalization of the seed industry, focusing resources on developing breakthrough varieties, and striving to achieve technological independence and self-reliance in seed sources. The meeting stressed the importance of cultivating and expanding characteristic rural industries, guiding localities to address shortcomings in product processing, cold chain logistics, and brand marketing, and advancing the extension, chain extension, and strengthening of industries.
Furthermore, it aimed to improve mechanisms linking farmers and agriculture to better promote farmers’ employment and income growth. The meeting also underscored the importance of solidly advancing the construction of livable, workable, and beautiful villages, implementing projects to improve basic rural living conditions, and enhancing infrastructure and public services such as roads, sewage treatment, logistics, and rural elderly care.
Finally, it called for deepening the campaign to promote civilized rural customs, continuously advancing the transformation of rural customs and habits, and increasing the supply of high-quality cultural products and services in rural areas.
