US Military Escorts in the Strait of Hormuz? Trump's Stance is "Evasive"
According to U.S. media reports, regarding whether the U.S. military will escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, President Trump was vague in a statement on the 14th, only saying “possibly.”
According to NBC News, Trump gave a vague response when asked about the issue, saying, “I don’t want to tell you anything about that,” and then added, “possibly.”
Trump stated that he is requesting help from multiple countries to ensure the safety of the Strait of Hormuz, and several countries have promised to assist. However, he refused to disclose which countries are involved.
He also said it is unclear whether Iran has laid mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Since the U.S. and Israel launched military strikes against Iran, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has almost completely halted. The U.S. has repeatedly stated that it is prepared to escort ships through the Strait if necessary, but has not taken action.
Earlier on the 14th, Trump posted on social media that many countries, especially those affected by Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, will send warships to escort ships alongside the U.S. He also said the U.S. will heavily bomb Iran’s coastline, “and soon the Strait of Hormuz will be open.” (Xinhua)
