Sudden Power Loss! New Energy Vehicle Shifts to Neutral 3 Times While Driving at High Speed! After-Sales Service: Triggered "Overspeed Overload Protection"!
Recently, Mr. Liu, a netizen from Zhengzhou, sought help from reporters, reporting that his Dongfeng new energy vehicle repeatedly suddenly lost power while driving at high speed. The vehicle suddenly shifted from Drive (S) to Neutral (N), causing it to instantly lose power and creating a dangerous situation. However, the manufacturer’s after-sales explanation was “overload protection after speeding,” which he found unacceptable, believing that “car companies are playing with people’s lives.”
A Frightening Moment
Sudden Power Loss on the Highway
Mr. Liu recalls that on January 12, 2026, he was driving his Dongfeng Fengguang MiniEV electric car on the highway from Zhengzhou to the airport. While in Drive (S), the vehicle was operating normally when the dashboard indicator suddenly showed the gear shifting to Neutral (N), and then the vehicle lost power.
“At that moment, pressing the accelerator no longer increased speed, and the vehicle kept decelerating. Fortunately, the brakes still worked. Luckily, there were no cars in the right lane, so I quickly pulled over and stopped. After restarting, the vehicle returned to normal,” Mr. Liu recalled, still feeling uneasy.
However, this was not an isolated incident. Within less than a month, the same gear-shifting power failure occurred twice more. On February 6, Mr. Liu was driving at 80-90 km/h on an elevated bridge when the S gear suddenly shifted to N again, the throttle failed, and the dashboard warning lights came on. The next day, February 7, the same situation happened again.
After-Sales Claims “No Fault Found”
Owner Questions the Explanation as Insufficient
Initially, Mr. Liu thought it was a mistake on his part when the first malfunction occurred, but after experiencing the same frightening incidents three times, he realized the problem was serious. He immediately contacted the vehicle’s after-sales service and took the car to the Blue Electric (formerly Dongfeng Xiaokang) Customer Service Center located inside Zhongfu Auto City on Jingbei 5th Road in Zhengzhou for inspection on February 8.
