The US and Israel launched strikes against Iran last week. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a think tank for both US political parties, estimates that the first four days of this operation cost about $891 million per day, totaling approximately $3.7 billion (28.86 billion HKD).

CSIS stated, “Some of these costs have been included in existing budgets, but most ($3.5 billion) remain unanticipated expenses.” This staggering figure mainly stems from the initial intensity of the strikes, during which the US military launched about 2,000 precision-guided munitions, including an unspecified number of “Tomahawk” cruise missiles, each costing over $2 million.

Costs may also include the loss of three F-15 fighters in Kuwait due to friendly fire, each valued at around $31 million. Additionally, there are expenses associated with rapidly mobilizing forces.

According to a budget estimate, during the peak of the Iraq War, military operation costs were only about $300 million per day.
