🇬🇱 GREENLAND’S ECONOMY IS FACING DIFFICULTIES

President Trump stated that the United States needs to take control of Greenland for security reasons, a remark that has sparked strong opposition from Greenland, Denmark, and many European countries. Greenland’s Prime Minister emphasized that Greenland is a democratic society and cannot be compared to countries that have previously been subject to U.S. intervention.

Denmark’s central bank has warned that Greenland’s economy is slowing and facing multiple challenges. Economic growth is currently only around 0.8% per year, a sharp decline compared to 2022, with the economy heavily dependent on the fishing industry. Shrimp stocks are declining, while major infrastructure projects are nearing completion and new projects have yet to start, leading to a deterioration in public finances.

At the same time, Greenland’s population is aging and shrinking, with projections suggesting a potential decline of up to 20% by 2050, creating significant long-term pressure. If President Trump were to gain control over Greenland, U.S. private companies could be encouraged to invest in minerals, defense, and logistics. However, if private capital proves insufficient, the funding shortfall would likely have to be covered by the U.S. government, implying higher taxes, budget reallocations and adjustments, increased public debt, or additional money printing.
