On December 24th, the popular Web3 wallet tool released version 2.68 of its Chrome extension and encountered a security incident. This version was maliciously embedded with code, posing a risk of stealing users' mnemonic phrases, private keys, and other sensitive private information. Preliminary estimates suggest approximately $7 million in assets were lost.
After the incident was exposed, the wallet's official team quickly activated an emergency response plan and fully fixed the code vulnerability in the latest version. At the same time, the official announced that affected users would receive full compensation to protect community trust.
This incident once again reminds users: regularly update wallet applications to the latest version, be cautious when backing up mnemonic phrases, and stay alert to abnormal transaction prompts. The security construction of the Web3 ecosystem is a long-term effort that requires the joint efforts of project teams, users, and the security community.
