Opinion: ZK proofs are too complex for decentralized identity and are not conducive to government and institutional adoption
Odaily Planet Daily News: Ingo Rübe, CEO and co-founder of decentralized identity provider KILT Protocol, said that the highly technical nature of ZK proofs makes it difficult for governments and institutions to adopt them. He explained that decentralized identifiers (such as biometric data) can be selectively shared with all parties and verified on the chain using Merkle trees, which is easier, faster and more efficient than ZK proofs. Rübe also believes that the open source software commonly used for ZK solutions could be a time bomb, leading to large-scale data breaches that leak sensitive user data, adding: “The best thing you can do is use a public permissionless blockchain to store the validity of the credentials,” saying that users must autonomously own and create their own digital identifiers, which are stored locally and verified using a decentralized blockchain network.
