Why are foreigners suddenly learning Chinese? Starting with Solana being renamed as "索拉拉"

Abstract generation in progress

Recently, foreigners have been crazily learning Chinese—not to pass the HSK, but because they’re afraid of missing out on the next 10x coin.

This might sound exaggerated, but just take a stroll through English Crypto Twitter and you’ll understand—from “City不City” to “币安人生,” those completely baffling Chinese memes have somehow become the secret sauce for global degens chasing engagement. Behind this trend lies a deeper shift: the discourse power in the crypto world is quietly moving eastward.

Why is a name like “索拉拉” worth talking about?

On October 20, the official Solana account retweeted a post, officially confirming its Chinese name—索拉拉.

At first glance, it seems like a normal localization move, but the timing couldn’t be better. It’s happening right as Chinese memes are running wild in the global crypto scene, and community-driven meme coins like Pepe and WIF keep creating wealth legends. The whole market is wondering: What exactly are these Chinese community members playing at?

The name “索拉拉” comes from X user @muper (@easytopredict), and stood out in a naming contest initiated by Trends.fun founder Mable. The nominator said the name represents “the energetic, creative spirit of builders constantly building on Solana.” It might sound a bit esoteric, but if you think about it, it really fits—the repeated character structure itself has a sense of friendliness, like “拼多多” (Pinduoduo).

Haha, Solala is indeed a brilliant name. But seriously, are foreigners really learning Chinese just to buy the dip? In my opinion, they simply smell the scent of money.

Haha, Solala is truly amazing. Foreigners are learning Chinese just to copy homework. --- The discourse power in crypto is really shifting; we have more memes than projects. --- The real reason to learn Chinese is the fear of missing out on 10x coins. --- The "City不City" meme spreading abroad is hilarious—they actually take it seriously. --- About Solana's name change, I think it should be called "SOL Handsome Guy" to feel right. --- Foreigners are all learning Chinese now. Feels like the next bull run will be led by Chinese memes. --- The name "索拉拉" really fits better than Solana; the localization is spot on. --- Speaking of which, the wealth creation myths in the Chinese community are truly attractive. --- Looks like I really need to brush up on my Chinese—feels like foreigners are ahead of us now. --- This trend is just wild. Their speed in learning Chinese is catching up to our speed in trading coins.

actually if you run a basic correlation analysis on chinese meme adoption vs. western trader fomo, the r-squared is honestly embarrassing. solana rebranding to "索拉拉" isn't localization—it's asymmetric information arbitrage wrapped in marketing theater.

ngl the memetic velocity on this "索拉拉" move is actually unhinged... solana's literally playing 4D chess with narrative positioning while everyone's still stuck on fundamentals lmao
