On Nov 11th, a Dallas influencer, Brandi Botello (theplugsdaughter_888 on IG) was driving with her friend and her pet monkey Jorgie sitting on her lap.
They were involved in a car crash and the police took Jorgie after Brandi was not able to produce paperwork for the monkey.
Jorgie is now in custody in Irving, Texas—relocated to a wildlife sanctuary.
This mirrors the same injustices faced by recent animals in pop culture and animal owners in the US.
